Wow Emma such a good interview!! Really useful and practical ways to think about plot and character, then the part about Heft and internalized fatphobia and what she'd do differently is so poignant and frank, and then you bring it back to the new book!! Chef's kiss, so well done.
Ah, I love this convo so much, Emma! I’ve only read Long Bright River and TGOTW so I didn’t know about Heft. What a generous thing you and Liz did here. Thank you.
I'm grateful for this conversation about Heft. It oddly makes me feel more confident about moving forward with my first book. It helps knowing that if (or when!) I learn more in the future about how I could have handled something better there's a model for how to discuss it. While I want to handle everything perfectly in my first novel (which I know is impossible!), this conversation has made me feel braver. Thanks, Liz and Emma.
I loved this interview! I'm currently reading TGOTW, so this is super timely. I read Long Bright River about two years ago and loved it, and I am so excited to be reading another Liz Moore book. Her writing is the sort that I just want to live in. I'm putting Heft next on my to-read list.
It's so interesting to read an author's reflection on their writing, past and present. Also so great to get a little view of her process. Thank you, both to you and Liz!
Very interesting! I am obsessed with plot myself and teach it regularly. There’s always more to learn and it is ever fun to hear how someone else thinks about it. Great interview.
Terrific interview, Emma. I too have always been terrified of plot. Then one day I just said “screw it” and wrote about what I wanted to write. Which was people with different view points interacting. Then, suddenly, a form of plot developed.
I am loving Housemates so much I don’t want it to end. Thank you for that.

Ty Lilly means a lot coming from you! So appreciative of Liz and genius writer buddies

My fave philly authors! Loved reading y’all’s conversation, and the ability to have dialogue on the more complex topics! 🤌🏼
Thank you fave bookseller friend

I agree. May we all continue and continue on

Thanks Alice! I love your writing on this too. What to you is a plot??

I love this! And I love Liz's books. Glad to see evidence of Philly's 🔥 literary scene.
